Signs of Autism in Infants

By Carisma Corianno

If you are like many parents you are studying your child develop their skills and grow very closely and often you may see things in them not budding like other children. In a lot of these scenarios, the question of autism is in the air, along with other developmental issues. The crazy thing about this fear is, every child shows some form of the symptoms similar to autism, but most grow out of it. I tell you one thing, please don't stress yourself out about it. My first tiny bit of advice is to print a milestone chart about developing from one of these websites or go straight to the doctors office. They will gladly give you one.

Just keep this close and keep an eye on things your child should be doing and if you have worries, go ahead and write them down so you are able to talk about it with their doctor. A lot of the times the caregivers are the ones that see these signs. Above all, if you honestly are losing sleep about something - go see the pediatrician and talk about it. That could help no matter what the conclusion. There are a lot of doctors out there doing research on how to detect the autism signs earlier and earlier, so the child can be treated as soon as possible.

General symptoms that are seen in children are :

*If they don't crack a smile by the age of 6 months

*Babbling by 12 months

*If they are not talking - saying words by 16 months old

*At 2 years old your child should be using two word phrases

*If they learn how to do things, then all of a sudden they regress

*If your child gets so fixated on an object and continuosly does not give you eye contact

*If communication is a problem for you and you see absolutely no effort in your child

*Violent tantrums for no reason is a symptom

*The child doesn't really have any friends because they would just rather be alone, interaction is not on the top of their list

*You might have issues with your child hearing you, you might think they have some hearing problems

There are a ton of signs and many can be seen very early on in a child's life. Your antennas need to be up early on to help your child. I actually make it sound easy - but it's not. If you don't detect it, when they are 6 months, it doesn't make you a bad parent. But if you do have questions you should speak to their pediatrician and talk to their caregiver, the caregiver can give you insight on how his whole day runs and the things he is more focused on.

Sincerely, Carisma Corianno
