Smart Choices For Fighting Wrinkles

By Jen Hopkins

Every woman wants to look good, especially the growing numbers of women embarking on professional careers. Age has always been the enemy of skin, which is the key to looking good. Given this, it's no surprise that anti-aging creams and lotions are by far the most popular cosmetics on the market, and the demand continues to rise.

Before selecting the cream or lotion that is right for you, it's important to educate yourself about the nature of wrinkles themselves. By understanding the chemical processes behind wrinkles, you can find the right product for your skin. An informed consumer will always make a better decision.

When a person matures in age, his body undergoes a mammoth change on the inside as well as on the outside; wrinkles appear as a result of both. Our body is no less than a chemistry laboratory; it synthesizes proteins and various other chemicals required for the proper growth of our skin, bones, hair and other organs.

Collagen and Elastin are two of these proteins, and the skin would be in sorry shape without them. They work to keep the skin supple, smooth to the touch and without flaws. As the body ages, the chemical factories inside start to wind down, producing less and less of these necessary proteins. Fine lines known as \"wrinkles\" appear on the face, neck and hands as the body becomes less effective at maintaining the skin's suppleness.

The effectiveness of the many skin care solutions produced by dermatologists over the years has increased, but no cream or lotion can ever replace the body's own skin care chemistry. However, some of these products are better than others, and finding the right one amongst the thousands of possible brands has become a confusing challenge for many. Is it possible to find the best wrinkle cream? I think it is.

The key to finding the right skin care product for your skin is to spend some time getting to know your skin. If you understand your skin type, then you will have an easier time finding a product that provides the things your skin needs. There are thousands of brands out there, and trying to work through them without a map drives millions of women to distraction.

I have met women who swear that they have tried every product on the market without finding one that works for them. I always tell them the same thing: go see a dermatologist. Paying an expert a little more money up front to study your skin can save you a bundle in the long run by making sure you don't waste your money on the wrong cream or lotion.

The next thing I tell them is to go hit the Internet. Find one of the great online review sites and read some reviews of the brands you're interested in. That way, you can make the experiences of other women work for you. Getting your hands on the right wrinkle cream can be a challenge, but there are tools out there to help you. Use them and look good!
