My old neighbourhood was a run down dump. But I had just moved into the country, and couldn't really afford anywhere nicer to be honest. It was clutered with homeless people
I always felt sorry for them, especially as I looked out from inside my warm home and saw them suffering in the cold winters and rainy autumn days.
It was just an average Wednesday night when I glanced over at that very spot, something wasn't quite right, something was different than normal.
A skip was overturned and with not one homeless person in sight. As I crossed the nearby road, I looked again. To my utter amazement, a short, rough looking man crawled out from beneath the skip. Brilliant.
The homeless bunch had used skip hire as solution to their problem. It was far from the usual use of a skip but nevertheless, what creativity!
Their newly formed shelter was now keeping the terrible weather from attacking their already weak, cautious bodies. Right there, they had actually just created a little community inside the very small space of a skip while at the same time, keeping themselves warm as they packed into this miniature packet of shelter.
I spent all night thinking about what a superb idea it was, certainly a new way of using a skip that's for sure. Those people might not have anywhere else to go but they have skip hire to thank for their new shelter.
Who knows, one day I might have to try it myself! Those people may not have a lot in this world, but they have that skip as well as each other and they have skip hire to thank for that.
