Back at work, Palin vents a bit over campaign criticism - the latest heading in the local language newspaper. Continued stress and pressure are bound to be the order of the day for Sarah. This will continue for some time.
November 4 Election Day was a big day for Sarah Palin and just before this time I wrote an article about how she would handle stress if she became Vice-President. I reported on the research of Cary Cooper on stress management and politicians. Within six months politicians were reporting elevated levels of stress.
Stress symptoms included loss of confidence, sleeping problems, drinking and eating too much, feeling constantly under strain and showing increasing lack of motivation.
Adapting to the role of Governor on her return after a failed election campaign nationally will provide additional stresses and challenges. She doesn't have to deal with all the new issues that might occur at the national level - that is true. But she does have to pick up the reins of governorship of Alaska.
There is no doubt that Sarah is an outstanding campaigner. As governor, she promoted the notion that she is bipartisan. Her recent campaign activities could not support such a contention and trying to build fences could be stressful for her.
The democratic opposition and government in Alaska bound to have many questions about unresolved issues. Today's paper highlights different opinions of Sarah's role in Troopergate. Reporters also asked how she could rebuild bipartisan relationships after her vice presidential attacks on the Democrats.
It was inevitable that Sarah Palin would attract significant post-campaign criticism. She has had to defend the comments of unknown staffers that she didn't know Africa was a continent. She rejected the notion that she went on a crazy spending spree on Republican money. She'll have to defend many such criticisms in the weeks ahead.
I have confidence that Sarah Palin will handle the stress well. She has a strong sense of purpose of purpose and strong values. There will certainly be many media vultures and other opportunistic people who will try to scapegoat her. In the end, her sense of purpose and her willingness to protect her own health and the safety and health of her family will provide her with a stress-resistant shield against the future criticisms and the invasions of privacy.
