Some people are driven by fame, others by money. Myself? Well that's simple, I am driven by wine. I would love to own my very own vineyard. I want grapes, lots of grapes. When 300 grapes makes a bottle of wine, imagine how many my vineyard could produce?!
A Nebuchadnezzar, no its not the name of a monster, but rather the name for the largest bottle of white wine you can buy. 15 litres of liquidy goodness, equating to a massive 20 bottles of regular sized bottles! Don't think I'll be ordering 2 bottles!
I know a fair bit about wine now after I was invited to attend a wine tasting event in my local church hall. It was a brilliant experience, I do like a drink I must admit! I love my new found interest, that vineyard will be mine!
Where there's free alcohol, you most certainly will find at least one wised up alcoholic! As my tolerance is quite high now, whilst others around me got sloshed, would you believe I actually learnt a few things! Some interesting facts I felt compelled to share with the rest of the world!
Red grapes can make red wine and also make white wine, but green grapes are only restricted to making white wine! Unfair a little on the red grapes having to do more work!
The actual colour of red wine comes from the grape skin and not the actual juice they produce. Saying this, techincally it would be possible to make a white wine by removing the skin of the red grape. This is how most of the champage you drink is made, using red grapes!
From a vegetarian's point of view, I would be careful what wine I would drink. Shocked? Well I was! Gelatine, fish extracts and eggs are used to 'refine' a wine (where it is rid of excess floating bits). This makes it unsuitable for vegetarians and vegans.
a fact that made me throw up a little in my mouth.. Cow's blood was used in the past to refine the wine! Not anymore mind thank god!
I know I have an alcohol problem and my addiction to wine doesn't help it. I always think about where my next glass is coming from, the flavour, the fruitiness, the warm feeling I get when I take a sip, I want a glass now! This addition far outweights my ability to care how the good stuff is made.
So tonight glass of white wine or red my dear?
