Why Should Fido go to the Vet?

By Sharon J. Fisk

We all have that special someone in our life. That little ball of energy overly excited to see us home from the grocery store. The excited bliss and pawing at the glass upon seeing us approach the door. The second we walk in the door the tail wags so much it takes over the rear half, rendering it unable to move in any position contrary to the tail. For many, that special someone is a regular part of the family, regardless of his or her four legged nature.

Rex, Fido, Mimi, whomever that special someone is, is the reason you smile like a kid, the reason you get off your duff and jog, and he or she the reason you can laugh when you are blue. Your furry companion is perfect in every way and to return the favor, you should make sure you do all you can to keep them that way. Take them to the veterinarian.

Like your child, your pet needs to go in for regularly scheduled exams. You should talk to the vet about vaccinations, irregular behaviors and make sure your pet gets a thorough physical. Your vet has the ability to diagnose ailments and diseases and a yearly exam is the best time to find them.

If your fuzzy member of the family exhibits changes in behavior, eating, stool or urine it is also time to see the vet. These may be symptoms of a larger problem and waiting for a yearly exam may not be wise. There are normally a few solutions to every ailment, so you can opt to take the least invasive or most financially sound option and not feel overwhelmed.

Fido deserves the long, happy life you want him to have. A good relationship with a vet can not only guarantee a healthy animal, but it can also leave you a happy animal.
