Choose A Cheap Roman Apartment For Your Family In Rome

By Jill Krammer

It can be tricky to travel with teens or younger children, since many hotels aren't ready to deal with them. That leaves your family and the staff feeling stressed and miserable.

Fortunately, you and your family can avoid this issue while still having a great vacation. Choose a short term apartment rental for your holiday as an alternative to hotels for groups and families traveling in Rome.

Apartments can give you a lot more in the way of privacy and space, and unlike hotel rooms, they offer a lot of the standard home amenities. They also help you save money, particularly when you compare them to the well known high cost of Roman hotels.

The cost of vacation apartments varies, but generally you'll pay anywhere from about the same as your hotel stay to less than half what it would have cost. It depends on what kind of hotel and how much space you'd need, versus the size of the apartment and how willing your family members are to share rooms or use the sofa bed.

Another money saver is the fact that apartments give you the basics you'd expect at home. You'll save on cleaners and extra baggage costs when you do your own laundry in the apartment, for instance.

Check out local cuisine in the most direct way possible - by shopping at nearby shops and markets and cooking your own meals in the apartment kitchen. You don't have to skip on restaurant meals, but you can save up to have them when you want them, and choose the perfect occasion.

Since most apartment units are close to a number of transportation options, you can choose a less expensive, quieter neighborhood without giving up access to the best tourist locations. Just make sure you check up on the routes before you head out for the day.

One thing that won't come with your apartment is a stocked refrigerator or pantry, so be sure you plan to do your own shopping. You should also remember that amenities are included only as listed, and that many buildings in Rome lack elevators and air conditioning - if you want them, be sure to ask for a building that has them.

Planning ahead is also important, as apartment booking works a little differently than most hotel reservations. You'll have to pay close attention to when you'll show up and leave, and you'll have to let the agency know what's needed. Fortunately, the staff of most apartment rental agencies speak English and know what visitors from Australia, the UK and North America want.

If you're visiting Rome with your family and your budget is tight, it helps to check out all the options. Be sure to include budget vacation apartments on your list of choices, since they could change the entire feel of your journey.
