I don't know about you, but I love Christmas decorations - seeing them as well as creating them - and this certainly includes cupcake decorations. After all, 'tis the season for a bit more ... shall we say enjoyment of treats than usual? So go ahead and have some fun decorating those cupcakes - and of course eating them!
- Sprinkles are just about the easiest way to go, any time of year. For quick and simple, yet festive Christmas cupcakes, all you need do is bake up a batch of cupcakes (from scratch, or if you're really in a time crunch, use your favorite mix.) Then, top with green, white, or red frosting; toss on some green and red sprinkles, and you have quick and easy Christmas cupcakes.
- Let it snow - this one's another easy, fun and simple timesaver. All you need is a batch of your favorite cupcakes, white frosting (or green, or red if you prefer) some powdered sugar and shredded coconut. You get the idea - slather on that frosting, top with coconut, dust w/powdered sugar ... sleigh ride, anyone?
- Quick, easy Christmas trees - your local grocer should have an assortment of gel icing, in tubes - green or red are best, of course - but go with whatever color(s) you like. Top your cupcakes with white icing, and simply draw Christmas tree shapes on the cakes, using your gel icing. Try wavy lines, or simple triangles with basic trunks in drawing your trees ... as always, don't be afraid to experiment a little!
- Here's a fun idea, not only for Christmas parties, but birthdays as well - start with an array of colored frosting, then create a gift-wrapped "present-ation" atop each cupcake with your decorations. Bows are made using red (or even other colors of) licorice; sprinkles or other small candies should be used sparingly. Your gift tags can double as name cards, and you've got colorful, imaginative (and yummy) place setting markers!
- More fun in the snow w/out the frostbite ... your kids can help create as well as "scarf" down these delicious snowmen. Atop your frosted cupcakes (white icing preferred) place a large marshmallow, followed by a small one, and insert a toothpick vertically, right down the middle (to help him stand up.) Use small candies to craft his face, attached w/a tiny bit of icing ... maybe even a straight pretzel for arms ... now everybody sing: Frosty the Cupcake was a yummy, happy treat ...
- Christmas train centerpiece - your cars can be made from Tootsie rolls - but experiment with other, similar shapes. Any small, round candies make good wheels, and black licorice makes great train tracks. Use multiple cupcakes, side-by-side to form your train, and let that inspiration flow ... you'll be known as the "engineer" of Christmas cupcakes!
These cupcake decorations for Christmas are sure to make you a hit with family, friends, and at holiday parties. Enjoy the creative process, and of course, the yummy results! You can find your decorating supplies in a lot of places - grocers, party supply stores, even the corner convenience market (or try our recommended supplier.)
