How To Create A Niche Presencein The Modern World Of Google

By Rob Metras

Niche gets talked about a lot, but what is it? A niche is usually thought to be a space or small notch, or an area or activity that a person is well suited for. Niche marketing can then be thought of as marketing that takes place within an area that is well defined, that a a person or company is well fitted for.

In the world of Google and search engines the goal is to appear at or near the top of the list when someone is submitting a keyword or phrase in search of a product, service, or information. Most users of Google won't go beyond the first or second page of results unless they haven't yet found what they are looking for.

For example a travel site that uses atravel and avacationa as its primary keywords will most likely become lost among its competitors. Forget the second or first page, you might not even be able to find yourself on Google without spending a significant amount of time searching. In order to be highly placed, or adominatea Google listings it is critical to establish a well defined niche and generate keywords that will match this niche. Online marketing really works, and you will begin to find this once you have a niche established.

Advertising a agreat vacationa anywhere is not going to be sufficient. However if you feature a vacation to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, a special place in the Caribbean, or Washington's San Juan Islands you are starting to move towards finding your niche. A niche in reality is a thing that you will know as much as or more then anyone else about.

Supply and demand play a key role here. Imagine the scenario in which Google and the Internet would have existed back at the time the hula hoop was invented. A few press releases by the inventor would have announced the product to the world. People would have turned to Google and typed in "hula hoop". Guess what? All roads would lead to the inventor's web site. He would have "dominated Google". As it turns out he did quite well without the Internet's help but you get the idea.

Whatever product or service you may offer, it should be in high demand and have few existing suppliers. It will also be greatly helpful for you to know a lot about your product or service, which you already probably will if you are offering your own. A large unmet demand and a low level of competition should be able to add up to a dominant Google search position.

Creating an online marketing business that is successful is not necessarily easy, and failure is likely unless you are able to find your niche early on. A good approach to finding your marketing niche is to brainstorm. Let your mind room free over as many marketing possibilities as you can. Make a list of them, and then go through the list and analyze the supply and demand possibilities for each listed item. Once you find something with high demand that only you or a few others can supply, you are on a solid path towards creating a successful niche marketing business

Opportunities at times stare us in the face and we don't even realize it. Just give some thought to what you have to offer to the world. It's probably much, much more than you realize. Then look for the unique thing, that which other's find interesting or important and market it. Sounds simple, but it takes work. Success isn't guaranteed of course, not many things in life are, but with perseverance and maybe a little luck you can make your niche market work for you.
