How To Find Family-Friendly Apartments In Rome

By Jill Krammer

It can be lots of fun to travel as a family or as part of a group. Unfortunately, it can also cause a number of problems.

After all, when you're dealing with lots of people, it can be frustrating to book transportation and accommodations. While hotels in Rome are known for costing a lot, they may not make up for that by providing equivalently good services.

That means you could end up paying a lot for several hotel rooms, without getting a lot of benefit from it. Taking kids to hotels can also be problematic, especially if the accommodations aren't well suited to children.

If you're looking for an alternative, short term apartment rental might be a better idea. You can even rent a number of apartments in the same building for larger groups.

This strategy can result in substantial savings for everyone. Rates for apartments are quite competitive with hotels - you can even pay as little as half as much in the right circumstances - and you get a lot more than you would in a hotel room, too.

These apartments are just like ordinary homes, giving you one or more full bathrooms, private bedrooms, laundry facilities and a full kitchen. This reduces stress and allows everyone to spend some time on their own, since privacy can be hard to come by in group travel.

You'll also be able to choose the right neighborhood for your group's stay. Some apartment buildings are in the heart of the best tourist areas, while other less expensive ones are in quieter residential neighborhoods.

Either way, use local shops and markets to provide ingredients for your own cooking, and you'll be able to enjoy local cuisine without spending a lot. All you need to do is make sure you're well organized in advance.

Remember that you should take the needs of each group member into account, and read apartment listings carefully. The agency will list all amenities that come with the apartment, so if it's not listed, it's usually not present.

Assuming an amenity will be present when it's not could be a minor annoyance if it's something like air conditioning. However, if you're traveling with someone disabled who needs an elevator, making sure there is one before you go could be very important.

However, a good apartment rental agency will be willing to work with you, and will have English speaking staff who understand your needs and what you're used to. They'll help you find the perfect apartment for your group's budget, and assist you in getting all the amenities you need, as long as you're willing to do a little planning beforehand.

Make sure you pay close attention to your schedule and group requirements, and you'll have a great trip. Apartments give you a familiar place to stay, and they help you save a lot, making them the perfect choice for group travel.
