Lightweight Computers, You've just got to love them

By Nathan Jamieson

Lightweight computers mainly fall into two categories, laptop computers and notebook computers.Lightweight computers are basically small personal computers which are designed for personal use which consist of a display, a keyboard and a pointing device which is also known as a touchpad.

The usual shape of a lightweight computer is the same of a large notebook with displays ranging from 13 inches to 17 inches plus but the latest lightweight computers have display screens as small as 7 inches. Most of this type of computer were designed so when the computer is closed it protects both the screen and the keyboard.

This type of computer laptops are now extremely popular. From a market share of the computer market of around 2% in 1986 it is believed that in 2009 there will be more laptops sold than the traditional desktop PC.

Laptops used to fall into two types. The first ones were desktop replacements which were as usually powerful enough to replace a PC but they were usually large with a limited battery life. This kind of laptop were usually used by business users who were able to to do most of their work at a desk and were able to carry their computer from office to office.

Unfortunately, the luxury of having a small computer was offset by the fact that the quality and battery life was very poor.

Todays lightweight computer users are in a great situation. There has been a notable trend towards better designs such as Intels Core and Core 2 ranges, these computers will run extremely efficiently.

So, today, we are now in the enviable position of a generation of lightweight computers that will combine high performance with a brilliant battery life.
