Secrets to Hosting Baby Showers

By Charmaine L. Smoot

The anticipation of a new baby entering the world is cause for joy and celebration, wouldn't you agree? After the expectant parents gather the confidence to reveal their wonderful surprise to friends and family, however, months of physical discomfort and feelings of apprehension may await them. What better way to assuage their fears and help prepare them for their baby's arrival than by holding a baby shower?

An honored tradition, the baby shower shows the pregnant mom just how much the arriving family member means to her friends and family. And (of course!) it's a fantastic excuse to get together to enjoy the company of friends. Who plans and hosts the baby shower? Traditionally, friends and family plan the baby shower for the pregnant mom-to-be during the weeks she's getting ready to give birth. And like many other parties, a baby shower isn't just about getting to be with fun friends and receiving yummy food, it's also a time for giving!

Baby gifts are an essential part of baby showers. Especially with first-time moms, baby gifts ease the financial burden of having that first child by creating an opportunity for many essential baby items to be given as gifts:

* personalized onesies

* cute body suits

* matching pajamas

* bibs in different colors

* burp cloths (always handy!)

* blankets

* diapers in different sizes

* baby wipes

* baby shampoo

* baby lotion to keep baby's skin soft.

The process of selecting an appropriate gift can be made a lot simpler if the mother-to-be is registered at a store. Since many shops will make their registries available online, you may not even need to get in your car to find a fabulous baby gift. How's that for the ultimate in shopping convenience!

Are you pressed for time but don't have a registry, on- or off-line, to guide your buying decision? Let baby baskets come to the rescue! They come with many baby basics and must-haves included and can be purchased at many baby specialty stores. These baskets come in a wide range of sizes and price ranges to fit any budget. In fact, you can have them sent directly to the host's home to keep things ultra-convenient.
