What's So Good About The Omron HJ 720 ITC Pedometer

By Ron Packardy

Even though there are several models of pedometer on the market right now, I've got a few very good reasons why you might want to take a closer look at the Omron HJ 720ITC.

For a start, the HJ 720 ITC is one of the few pedometers to use the newer accelerometer technology to measure movement. What that means is that it's really good at recognizing what counts as a pace or a step.

So, for you and me, that means that we don't have to bother with all that clipping it to our belt so that it works properly business. Instead, we just drop it into our pocket, bag or purse and off we go. Personally, I think this makes a big difference to people, especially those who are in a rush and have to make a quick decision about whether to take their pedometer with them or not.

Another great reason you might want to get an Omron HJ 720-ITC is the fact it allows you to download saved data to your computer. The saved data can be from the short 7-day memory or the longer 42-day memory. You can easily view the 7-day memory data on the pedometer but the 42-day is for download to your PC.

The pedometer also comes with some special software called the Omron Health Management Package. You install this onto your PC and it allows you to view and manage the data with graphs and charts. It also works with other products from Omron such as their heart rate monitor and their blood pressure monitor. I think this is great for people that want to do more than just keep track of their walking or running progress.

I use the memory function myself and it brilliant for keeping track of my progress from week to week. Not only that, it also encourages me to do more exercise. If I don't quite manage to do my full quote of exercise on any particular day, I always end up wanting to do a bit extra to compensate the next day. I'm fairly sure I wouldn't do that if it wasn't for the fact I am tracking my performance and improvement using the data download facility.

It's just struck me as I write this - the Omron HJ 720-ITC would make an absolutely brilliant gift for someone else. I like it for myself because it's fun to use and practical, but if you wanted to show someone else you care about them, what better way than to get them one of these? It's a cool gadget to have, but it's also something that will really help them either improve or maintain their health. How better to show them you really care?
