It's all about Functionality - The HP iPaq hx2750

By Matt Ryan

The PDA market is increasingly impressive in today's market; HP is no exception with their latest release of the HP iPaq hx2750. Even though this is one of the bigger PDA devices available, it has numerous applications and technologies, including a fingerprint reader, to make users lives easier and more secure. Business users and consumers alike can find everything they need in the new iPaq hx2750.

The HP iPaq hx2750 has your standard touch screen, which is a 3.5-inch TFT screen. As with many touch screen phones, the screens are sensitive and are not scratch resistant. However, this model has an added feature for screen protection. There is a clear screen protector that protects the screen when the phone is not being used, and easily flips open when users need access to their data. This PDA not only shows users the amount of battery life left, but also shows how much memory is available for use - all visible on the home screen.

There is 192MB of available memory, on the iPaq hx2750, with additional CompactFlash and SDIO / MMC slots for storage. Battery life and multimedia performance have been increased with the integration of HP's SpeedStep and Wireless MMX technologies.

With a 624MHzXscale processor, 128MB RAM, and Microsoft Windows Mobile (Pocket PC 2003 Edition), WiFi, Bluetooth, and Serial IR - your new pocket PC is ready to use, right out-of-the-box. You immediately have access to a number of applications, like Pocket Word, Excel, Outlook, and even Internet Explorer. In addition, Credant software, ProtectTools, VPN- and WEP-enhanced security offer state-of-the-art security, and are ready for use when you open the box.

The price of PDA's has not dropped dramatically, over the past few years, but the sticker price on the iPaq hx2750 is still a bit high at $549. Unfortunately this makes this phone a bit less appealing to the everyday consumer and more appealing to the business sector. All this means is that businesses have more of an opportunity to indulge in the benefits of this new PDA.

Even though technologies were integrated, to increase battery life, the iPaq is still a PDA and uses extensive battery when it's turned on. If you were to turn off wireless, and all other applications, you could get an average of 4 1/2 hours of battery life (while playing media). This isn't too horrible, except that a standard work day is longer than 4 1/2 hours, and with the synchronization of email and what not, you may want to consider additional chargers and batteries.

Browsing through different PDA's, you may notice that the iPaq is a bit bulkier than most. This unit measures around 4.7" x 3" x 0.6" and weighs around 5.8 ounces. Its design was created for durability, stability, and functionality, not to be cute.

Overall, if you're looking for functionality, and not style, the HP iPaq hx2750 is a great fit - if you can fit it into your budget. The applications, security, and functionality, offered to you through this PDA, is hard to pass up.
