Making Your Carpet Last with the Right Care

By Qandishah Brown

Who doesnt like having warm soft carpets on their floors? These things are more than just an accent but it deteriorate quickly without proper care. Caring for your carpet properly can mean more than just an occasional vacuum. There are certain things to keep in mind so that you can clean your carpet properly. Correct cleaning can ensure that your carpet can last longer and stay looking nice as well.

A good thing to remember is that even if you dont see it, its there. This means that dust and dirt get trapped within your carpet without being visible. This is why it is important for you to vacuum your carpet at least once a week. You can do it more often if the area you live in has a lot of traffic and dust. Cleaning baseboards and hard to reach areas is also important; take the time to do this so that you prevent buildup.

A vacuum cleaner certainly makes the job of getting dirt out easier; but if you arent careful you may not be cleaning your carpet as thoroughly as youd like. To make sure that you get all the dust and dirt out, work slowly and go over the carpet several times. If you are working with wall to wall carpeting it will be easier to divide the entire area into sections and work by parts. This way you can be sure that you dont miss anything.

A wet cleaning method can also be used to clean your carpet. Before anything remember that detergents, dish washing liquids and the like are not suitable for cleaning carpets. Make sure that you purchase something especially for carpets. If you are cleaning a carpet that is not made of synthetic materials be sure that your cleaning agent is recommended. You will also want to vacuum the carpet before starting to remove any dry soil particles.

If you decide to use a wet cleaning method, be sure that you follow cleaning instructions carefully. It is never a good idea to over wet the carpet since it can result it foul odor, discoloration or even shrinkage. You also need to make sure that you take out all of the cleaning agents once youre done and dry it properly.
