Sporting Goods Stores Shopping

By Frank Cabella

The specialty sporting goods store dominated the market in their area for decades. But lately the major sporting goods stores have integrated the specialty sporting goods store into a more complete shopping experience.

Given the specialty sporting goods stores learned how to adapt their products to the consumer almost dynamically; the major sporting goods stores have been able to incorporate the same ideas. The major sporting goods stores are better now at competing with specialty stores.

Walk into any major sporting goods store and find an extensive array of any given sporting goods interest. There are camping, cycling, golf, and fitness that have given the consumer more freedom of choice instead of the cookie cutter sporting goods store of the past.

When looking for sporting goods stores consider the following:

1. What is the mix of specialty products with typical sporting goods?

2. Do they have frequent discount or coupon promotions?

3. Can you easily navigate the store and find what you are looking for?

Sporting goods stores are finally waking up to the reality that they must adapt to their consumers needs both in form of product and shopping experience. Without the focus on the consumer the sporting goods stores will not succeed in the future.
