Young adults need health insurance too

By Jeff Cline

So you never thought about health insurance until you heard you no longer qualified for your parents plan. Maybe you are transitioning into the career world and do not yet have the option of employer group health insurance. There are other options for you.

Many major carriers have individual health plans. Many carriers have plans especially tailored with your age and lifestyle in mind. So if you are not eligible for a group plan individual health insurance is a really good alternative.

The carriers have heard what this group of consumers are looking for and acted upon those needs and expectations. The UniCare Sound and BCBS Tonik plan are 2 examples of these young adult plans that cater directly to their needs.

One of the things 20 somethings find imporatant is a office visit co pay. They want to know how much they need in their pocket when they make a visit to the doctor. Some of these plans have made the office visit all inclusive, by including lab and x-ray expenses to be covered ubder that office vist co pay.

Young people are loving this feature! Most are on a fixed income or have student loans to manage and just can not afford 2 or 3 bills for a office visit. It is one worry they do not want added to their plates. A $30 co pay is much more manageable then a bill for $200.

Many of these plans have dental and vision benefits. Carriers found that this was benefits the younger adults expected to find in a plan. Typically, those added benefits would be an additional price, not with these plans.

The younger generation are fast moving, fast paced beings. They do not have time for all the details. They like it simple to understand. That is why these plans are opting to eliminate the co insurance. What this means is that once you meet your plan deductible the carrier will pay 100% of your expenses. No more confusing 80/20 or 75/25 mambo jambo.

This lifestyle period of consumers use to go without insurance. But, they are very financial savvy now and know that is a bad option. Because of this carriers are designing wonderfully simple straight forward plans to meet the needs of these young adults.
